The Daily Gambling Fix 10/4/11 — Coco
The Game: Philadelphia Phillies @ St. Louis Cardinals
The Pick: Cardinals +120
The Reason: The Cardinals are on a roll, having won nine of their last 11 at home and five of their last seven against the Phillies. The Cards have won in each of Jaime Garcia’s last four starts against the Phillies, as he has allowed only three earned runs against over 28 inning in those games. Garcia is 9-4 with a 2.55 ERA at home this season, and 3-0 with a 2.64 ERA in September. As for the Phillies, they have lost in each of Cole Hamels’ last four starts. Look for the Cards to get the upset victory at home and take the 2-1 series lead.
The Game: New York Yankees @ Detroit Tigers
The Pick: Tigers +100
The Reason: After taking a 2-1 series lead with a victory last night, the last thing the Tigers want is to see this series go back to New York. They have a great opportunity to close things out with A.J. Burnett on the mound for the Yankees. Burnett is 4-5 with a terrible 6.28 ERA on the road this season. Tigers’ starter Rick Porcello has been shaky at times this season, but he did post a 2-1 record and a 3.55 ERA in September, and the Tigers appear to have an advantage with a deep bullpen that got the night off thanks to Verlander’s solid eight-inning performance last night. Look for Detroit to close things out and book their trip to the ALCS tonight.
